Week 3- Which Web is Up?

Okay, which way is up? This week proved to give me many ideas of how I can use RSS to improve my professional development, Photo sharing for the home and office, and Google Sites to help organize all these wonderful things!

I set up my first RSS feed with Google Reader. I plan to check this each day, as I have imbedded it into IGoogle, which has already been the first thing I check each day. I am hoping that it will eliminate my needless checking of different sites and blogs.

As for the Flickr account, I am thinking that this will be able to help us back up our archives here at EOSC. What a great place to store and share all of the old photos and yearbooks here at Eastern!

I am looking forward to working with Google Sites. This looks like a great place to store, organize, and access information. And with its read/write capabilities, others will be able to add to and feel part of the EOSC library!

Week 3 was a good week!

Wiki Wiki

My grad class this week helped me think about Blogs to follow, wikis, and photo sharing on the web. There are several good (and several bad) blogs out there for libraries. My favorite for EOSC was http://librarystories.blogspot.com/ set up by Oklahoma Libraries.

Wikis are a great place to collaborate on documents. With feeling that life is "wiki wiki" (I'm practicing my Hawaiian too- means very quick), I am hoping to create a wiki for my staff to work on our Library Policies and Procedures that are in bad need of review. With simple deadlines for sections, my staff could probably renew and review this HUGE document within a couple of weeks (without even meeting).

The Photo Sharing sites are great. I got an idea of how a free photo sharing site might help us with our non-existent archival budget. We have been wanting to digitize for some time now, and voila, why not use a free site to get started and have back-up?? All we need is a scanner, of which we have two!

Class is great. I even signed up for a Twitter account (mmart072). I also learned that my last post would've probably been more appropriate as a Tweet! Sorry!

Okay, this post is just for fun! I found it on Joanne Burgess' blog when I was looking for a cartoon image of a librarian!

Blogs

My class (this week) has been some of a reminder of blogs, as well as a motivator. I have wanted to reinstate/create a Library Council here at Eastern OK State College. I wish to incorporate peers, faculty, students and staff. Well, getting these people together at the same time can be a great challenge. Then, class, and viola, I will use a blog! The blog can: take care of scheduling issues; be a great archive for ideas; make a place for research-based ideas to be stored and viewed; and be something I haven't even imagined yet.

I am very enthused about the possibilities of this blog for the EOSC library as well as the blog I will soon create for a new Library Council. Now, I will just have to learn more about Wikis in the class to come.... maybe that will be more appropriate!

Welcome

Hello and Welcome to the Eastern OK State College Library blog! I originally created this blog for my Masters course, but I hope to let it become a place to celebrate our great EOSC library! Please come often. Maria
